What Is Tech Neck and How Do I Fix It?

What Is Tech Neck?

You’ve probably experienced this before or seen it in others: hours hunched over a phone or on a computer, and then, all of a sudden, the stiffness and soreness start to set in. You get pain in your upper back or neck, the frequency of your headaches starts to increase, and eventually your posture—well, it’s not what it used to be.

This is what we call tech neck, and it’s a problem affecting more and more people today.

How Tech Neck Can Affect Your Spine and Nerves

Tech neck doesn’t just affect how you look. In fact, over time, it can lead to bigger and bigger issues. The longer the spine stays bent in that abnormal position, the more pressure and tension it’s gonna cause on those delicate nerves in the spinal cord, causing things like stiffness in the upper back and the neck.

Eventually, it leads to pain, it can cause headaches, and it can also affect these delicate nerves that run down the arms and hands, causing numbness and tingling.

If you’re feeling any of those symptoms, you’re not alone. But the good news is, this is something that we can help fix. At our clinic, we help restore your health and your posture.

Small, Simple Changes You Can Start Right Now

It all starts with small, simple changes you can start with right now, the first of which is raising your monitor to eye level.

The second one is to take small breaks every 30 minutes or so. Move your neck around and relax, and do some stretches with your neck every 30 minutes to an hour.

These small, simple changes will help you get feeling better and functioning better. But chiropractic care is key to addressing the root cause of the tech neck problem.

Starting the Process With a Chiropractic Adjustment

Here, we’re gonna start with a small, simple adjustment to start getting pressure off the nerves, to start relaxing the muscles, restore motion, and get the problem fixed at the root cause. So we’re gonna perform a small adjustment now to start the process.

I’m gonna have you go ahead and tip your head down.

As we’re firing three times a second, that’s helping get motion into each one of the vertebrae to start taking pressure off those nerves.

We understand the frustration of dealing with tech neck, and we’re here to help. We have the expertise, the tools, and therapies to get you feeling back to your best.

Restoring the Curve With Bodyweighting

Besides chiropractic care, one of the other complements that we use is actually restoring the curve. When someone has tech neck and their neck is bent the wrong direction, we use bodyweighting to help retrain the postural muscles to restore the curve back where it’s supposed to be, to get the pressure and tension off the spinal cord and nerves.

This helps speed up the recovery process and, in the long run, helps you stay better and feel better.
